Micro-teaching Reflection

 
Considering each teacher candidate had only 10 minutes to present, I think the topic I chose for the micro-teaching was appropriate. The rules to play the game are very simple and easy to learn for those who have never encountered this game. Also, each game is very quick and short, so that each group could play as many rounds as they wanted.

However, the downsides were timing and pacing. Since the teacher candidates understood the rules very quickly and each game was very short, I still had about two more minutes to do my presentation. I should have prepared for the situations like that, but I was not. Although the presentation did not go well as I planned to be, it was a great opportunity for me to learn a lesson that teachers are always prepared for uncertainties in their classrooms. For example, if there are students who finish in-class activities early, then teacher can provide them other activities that they can do for the remaining time.

    Thanks for the thoughtful comments, David! It is important to have Plan B ready in case the lesson ends up being shorter than planned. Make sure to take a close look at your peers' assessments to get ideas for future work and improvements.

Final Reflection

·       Learning math in a traditional manner: o    Since I had studied math in a traditional manner in Korea and Canada, it was quite challenging to approach the new BC curriculum from a different perspective. Thankfully, the readings, math fair experiences from EDCP 343 and the in-class puzzles have inspired me to be creative in how I can combine math concepts with other subject areas, which hopefully attract students’ interests in learning math. ·       Micro-teaching activities: o    Whether the topic was academic or not, I found it very interesting and helpful. Not only did I had an opportunity to teach in front of other teacher candidates, but I was able to observe other and reflect on my teaching style.

The Scales Problem

A market vendor sells dried cooking herbs in whole-number amounts from 1 to 40 grams.
